The new law is intended keeping in mind the height of the child along with the seat of the vehicle. The core purpose of establishing the regulations are to reduce the severity of injuries caused to children while driving. This will really reduce the risk of injuries in case of the event of an accident. So it is better to educate yourself with the changes so that you can be comfortable with the new law while in future you will drive with children.
You should have to take care of four major points.
- Height Regulations:
It is very important to see that the child should travel in the rear of the vehicle if the height of your child is not be more than 1 meter and 35 cm. Only if they are taller than 1 meter 35 cm, then only they are allowed to travel sitting in the front of the vehicle. In a nutshell they should be 12 years of age or thereabouts to do so. However if the rear part of the vehicle is already full of children in child seats, then an extra child can be allowed to sit in the front. In that case also proper legal care should be taken regarding the safety regulation for the weight, age and height of the child.
- Safety Child Seats:
The child’s car seat should be designed in a proper manner keeping in mind all the safety and security of a child. Children up to the age of 18kg in weight are needed to sit in the rear part of the car. A child seat especially for up to the age of four should face rearward. And moreover it should not be opened the front windscreen.
- Taxi Travelling Rules:
If you are travelling through a taxi then the children should sit in the rear of a taxi. You may use a car seat when the taxi is only driving around the city area.
Sometimes when you are travelling in a vehicle having nine or more seats, you should consider fastening their seat belts. It is nothing but for your security.
